Virtual submissions are for Maria, Tony, Anita, Riff, Bernardo, Chino, Doc, Shrank, Krupke & Glad Hand ONLY. All other roles, please attend the in person dance call.

Preparation 
For virtual submissions, please prepare a short selection in the style of the show. You may sing from the show. Please record vertically and upload to YouTube as a unlisted link. All submissions please send to casting@sabroadwaytheatre.com

For the in person dance call, please arrive warmed up and ready to dance. Bring your headshot and resume (stapled back-to-back), Jazz/Character heels and clothes you can move in. Callbacks, if warranted, will occur after the dance call. For Callbacks prepare 16-32 bar song in style of show. Bring sheet music in key, an accompanist will be provided. Callbacks will include cold readings.

WSS Character Breakdown

Riff – A spritely, quick-tempered leader. He seeks to eliminate the Sharks and establish his own gang’s dominance. Tony’s best friend, he is eventually murdered by Bernardo. Gender: male presenting, Vocal range top: G4, Vocal range bottom: Bb2. Must be able to dance.

Tony – A romantic young man and former leader of the Jets, he has found a new lifestyle now. Tony finds himself violently torn between his friendships and love. Falls in love to Maria and meets an untimely death. Genuinely sweet and sincere. Gender: male presenting, Vocal range top: Bb4, Vocal range bottom: Bb2.

Bernardo – A proud, strong, handsome Puerto Rican man. Bernardo seeks to carve out territory as a sense of identity for he and his friends. Maria’s brother and Anita’s boyfriend. Leader of the Sharks. Gender: male presenting,Vocal range top: Eb4, Vocal range bottom: Bb2. Must be able to dance.

Maria – A hopeless romantic and innocent young girl. She falls in love with Tony and finds herself at the center of the violent conflict between the two gangs. Bernardo’s sister. Puerto Rican. Gender: female presenting, Vocal range top: C6, Vocal range bottom: Bb3.

Anita – Feisty and assertive. She dispenses older sister advice to Maria and tries to shield her from the dangers of the gangs. Bernardo’s girlfriend and Maria’s friend. Puerto Rican. Gender: female presenting, Vocal range top: D5, Vocal range bottom: F3. Must be able to dance.

Chino – An angry and, at times, naive Shark who turns murderous and vengeful. Suitor to Maria and friend of Bernardo’s. Gender: male presenting.

Anybodys – A spunky tomboy who is desperate to become a member of the Jets. The other Jets mock her for her ambitions but generally appreciate her company. Full of energy and heart. Gender: female presenting.

Doc -The owner of the candy store where the Jets hang out. He tries to guide the Jets youthful angst and provides a safe haven for Tony. Old fashioned and wise in his ways. Male or Female. Age 60+. *this role will be casted by a local adult actor*
 
Schrank – A local police detective frustrated by the ongoing violence between the Jets and Sharks. Blunt, brash, and unapologetic. Gender male presenting. Age: 40 to 55. *this role will be casted by a local adult actor*
 
Krupke – The local beat cop. He has no patience for the gangs conflict and tries to keep tensions from erupting between them. Regularly mocked by the local gangs. Gender: male presenting. Age: 30 to 60. *this role will be casted by a local adult actor*
 

Ensemble – Jets, Sharks, Jets Girls, Sharks Girls. Must all be proficient dancers.

Descendants Character Breakdown

Mal -Our hero and Maleficent’s daughter. Under her hardened, sarcastic exterior, she has a sense of justice and a heart of gold. Gender: female presenting. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: G3.

Evie -The Evil Queen Grimhilde’s daughter. She hides her brilliance behind a superficial, image-obsessed attitude. Gender: female presenting. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: G3.

Jay – Jafar’s son—an outwardly arrogant thief. He conceals a strategic, collaborative nature. Gender: male presenting. Vocal range top: G4. Vocal range bottom: Eb3.

Carlos – Jafar’s son. An outwardly arrogant thief. He conceals a strategic, collaborative nature. Gender: male presenting. Vocal range top: G4. Vocal range bottom: Eb3.

Maleficent -The infamous evil fairy. She is a profoundly selfish absentee parent with an unquenchable taste for vengeance. Gender: female presenting. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: A3.

Grimhilde -Snow White’s wicked adversary. An aging beauty queen, she is still desperate to be the fairest of them all. Gender: female presenting. 

Jafar – Aladdin’s nemesis. He is a slimy, washed-up crime lord desperate for a way back to the top. Gender: male presenting. Vocal range top: E4. Vocal range bottom: B2.

Cruella de Vil -A Dalmatian-loving dog-snatcher. She is an obsessive, eccentric, and overbearing helicopter mom. Gender: female presenting. Vocal range top: B4. Vocal range bottom: B3.

Ben – Son of the Beast and Belle. He is a classically regal, optimistic kid who bears the weight of soon becoming King of Auradon. Gender: male presenting. Vocal range top: Bb4. Vocal range bottom: Ab2.

King Beast -Ben’s father and King of Auradon. Royal and rule-driven, he knows a bit about being marginalized. Gender: male presenting.

Queen Belle – Ben’s mother and Queen of Auradon. Warm, but cautious, she doesn’t understand her son’s generation. Gender: female presenting.

Fairy Godmother –Headmistress of Auradon Prep. Busy and bubbly, she’ll do anything to keep the school afloat. Gender: female presenting. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: D4.

Jane – Fairy Godmother’s daughter. Meek and mousy, but hungry for attention, she’s looking for her moment to shine. Gender: female presenting. Vocal range top: D5. Vocal range bottom: E4.

Chad -Cinderella and Prince Charming’s son. An arrogant and spoiled blockhead, he’s never wanted for anything. Gender: male presenting.  Vocal range top: D4. Vocal range bottom: B2.

Audrey – Sleeping Beauty’s daughter. The malicious queen bee of Auradon Prep, she has her eye on the throne. Gender: female presenting.  Vocal range top: B4. Vocal range bottom: A3.

Doug – Dopey’s son. Nerdy and sweet, he does all the work that his fellow students don’t want to do. Gender: male presenting.  Vocal range top: E4. Vocal range bottom: C4.

Ensemble – Includes Royal Page, Royal Guard, Maurice, Coach, Snow White, Isle Ensemble, Auradonians, Coronation Crowd, Auradonian Choir.
